On Class Systems and Hooters.

I was just about to post a comment on my good friend Ann's blog (yes, that is her current identity. I know it changes weekly, and is hard to keep track of, but this is why we like her) when what i was about to write hit me.

In regards to a recent post of hers about the shallowness of our fellow students, i was going to comment "Hey! Us losers are people too!" when it hit me. Us losers? What am i talking about?! Elementary school ended almost four years ago, so why do these class definitions still stick with me? Perhaps becuase they were driven into my skull for eight years of my life, but i thought i had gotten over the whole "popular kids" phase of life, but i guess not.

It seems to resurface every once in a while, no matter how much squashing i have done over the past few years. I take comfort in the fact that it reoccurs less and less, but look forward to the day that i will totally be rid of this feeling. But will that day actually arrive? Or will a part of us always feel that there are groups of cool kids, and uncool kids, even after we leave highschool and enter "the real world". Hmm... i guess we won't know until we embark on that journey.

On a brighter note, i set sail on a completely different voyage tomorrow morning. Choir is going to Edmonton. Translation: we are going shopping with Mrs. Lord (a.k.a. lordy) for 6 hours. Boo Yah!
Actually, unlike most of my fellow singers, i am not overly pumped about the spending spree part of this trip. I mean, sure it will be a blast, but honestly, what makes it so different from here? I guess i will find out when i get there, but so as not to be horribly disappointed in the lack of life-altering stores in the West-ed mall, i am just looking forward to the fun experiences and memories that i hope to collect on this trip. Like our side trip to Hooters. Never been there. Excited to experience it. Will tell y'all about it when i return. Try not to miss me too much!

Double Standards and Breaking News.

Wow. I've never blogged at my school before. Ok, or anywhere besides my basement computer.
I kind of like it. Its a new environment.
Anyways, on to more interesting topics.

Double standards. They exist everywhere in our society and have been around for years. They exist between different races. "Black people" can refer to each other as "niggers" in converstaion, but if a "white person" was even to hint at the word, an all out brawl would ensue.
They can also be found between different sexes. It is socially acceptable for a male to be permiscuous and sexually active, if a female tried to do the same thing, we would obtain many different pet names such as "slut" or "hore". Lately it seems that this particular issue seems to be mending itself as males also seem to be getting tagged "players" which has started to change from a sought after term, to a more despised one. Hmm....despised is too strong of a word....but i can't think of a more suitable one at the present time.
Or how about if a male is taking the lead sexually in a relationship, the deed could be referred to as "rape", but if the female took these same reigns, she is just being forward and taking charge. How is it socially acceptable for females to take charge in a relationship, but males to be persecuted for it? Is it because we view males as having a stronger character than women? Maybe in the physical aspect, yes, but as for the emotional toll that an act like this could have, men are just as vulnerable as women and therefore should be given the same respect as we are.
And of course, you can have them exist for just one sex. Like how, as girls, we are basically expected to become "intimate" and possibly "sleep" with our significant other after a certain amount of time in the relationship. The specific time has yet to be determined, it exists. So, if you have lets say, a couple boyfriends under your belt, then you've slept with a couple people. But guys don't like girls who have "been around". Could someone please explain to me how this scenario works? Because from where i stand, i don't see how it can for us gals.
Hmm...i think i have ranted about that last one before.....sorry for being repetitive if i have.

Britney Spears is pregnant. No i don't know this because i am an avid fan who checks her website everyday, or watch MTV religiously to try and catch a quick glimpse into her life.
I read it in the paper today. Yes, The Star Phoenix. I was utterly disgusted to see that something like this, was so important to the public, that it was deemed important enough to make it onto the front page of our daily paper. Yes, there is a place for these kind of announcements for the families that are excited and want to share their exciting news of starting a new life. But this place is not the front page along side with the problems that the world, or just Toon Town, is facing today. It is with the rest of the wedding, anniversary and birthday announcements. Just because your famous, doesn't give you the right to become more important than say, the aids pandemic in Africa, or at the very least, local struggling talent in needs of recognition.
